Buying used equipment
Humidity is hard on pet equipment. Fabric beds and soft carriers grow mould in a wet-season wardrobe, dry food goes stale within weeks of opening, and metal crates left outdoors rust through in a season. Hard-sided carriers, sealed food containers and washable bedding are the practical choices here.
Second-hand kit moves constantly on the island because people arrive and leave with animals. Airline-approved carriers, crates and travel bowls are usually near-new and sell for a fraction of retail — check the model is still IATA-compliant if you plan to fly with it.
For food, check the expiry date and how the bag has been stored rather than the brand. Imported prescription diets are available through island vets but stock is patchy, so confirm supply before you switch an animal onto one.
Pasaran does not permit wildlife listings
Only domestic animals may be listed — dogs, cats, rabbits, small caged pets and fish bred in captivity. Protected and wild-caught species, including slow lorises, primates, birds of prey, sea turtles, pangolins and wild-caught reptiles, are removed on sight and reported to the authorities. Please report anything you see that breaches this.
