Before you commit
Most surrenders on the island happen in the first year, and almost all of them were predictable.
Rabies is endemic here, which makes vaccination the first question rather than an afterthought. Ask to see the vaccination book with dates and the treating vet’s stamp, and never move an unvaccinated animal across a regency boundary.
The island’s shelters are full of Bali heritage dogs and rescued kittens, and rehoming one costs a fraction of a bred animal while freeing a place for the next rescue. If you do buy, meet the mother, see where the litter is kept and walk away from anyone who will only meet in a car park.
Think past the first month. Vet care, sterilisation, boarding when you travel and — if you may leave Indonesia — export paperwork that takes months and real money. An animal is a ten-year commitment in a place where many people stay two.
Pasaran does not permit wildlife listings
Only domestic animals may be listed — dogs, cats, rabbits, small caged pets and fish bred in captivity. Protected and wild-caught species, including slow lorises, primates, birds of prey, sea turtles, pangolins and wild-caught reptiles, are removed on sight and reported to the authorities. Please report anything you see that breaches this.
